Joint Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee

 to represent the following municipalities?

 

Township of Alnwick/Haldimand, Municipality of Brighton, Town of Cobourg, Township of Cramahe,  Township of Hamilton,

Municipality of Port Hope and the Municipality of Trent Hills

 

The Joint Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee has full delegation of the authority in the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, to address applications requesting an audit of a candidate’s election campaign finances.  This authority includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Review applications and grant or reject audit requests
  • Where an audit is granted, appoint an auditor and review the audit report
  • Where indicated, decide whether legal proceedings shall be commenced.

 

The Joint Municipal Election Compliance Audit Committee will consist of a total of three members appointed by the Councils of each participating municipality to represent all of the above-noted municipalities by  conducting audits on an individual basis if required.  Committee members must have the ability to understand and apply the election campaign finance provisions of the Municipal Elections Act and should be considered impartial with respect to their ability to fulfill their responsibilities. Preference shall be given to candidates that have applicable experience in accounting, law, law enforcement and academics from related fields. Remuneration will be a $400.00 retainer fee (which includes compensation for review of any background materials and $75.00/meeting plus mileage).

Terms of Reference for this Committee can be accessed from any of the representative municipal web sites or be picked up in any one of the participating municipal offices.

 

Members of the public interested in serving on this Committee are asked to submit a letter of interest along with a resume, to any of the following Municipal Clerk’s Department no later than 12:00 noon on
